SVETLANA
MARAŠ

Svetlana Maraš is a Serbian composer and sound artist active in the field of experimental music. Her work encompasses variety of formats such as live performance, electro-acoustic composition, sound installations and works for the radio. The key element of her practice is improvisation based on the interaction of sound and space – Maraš responds to how the sound she produces spreads through space, how it fills it, how far or close it seems to be. Using tablets, pedals, touch interfaces, and other sound control devices, often devised and made by herself, Marash manipulates and shapes sound composed mostly of micro samples into complex soundscapes designed to stimulate the listener and make listening an active cognitive process.

In addition to her work as a composer, Maraš is also active as a teacher and curator. Among other things, she was the artistic director of Radio Belgrade's Electronic studio between 2016 and 2021 and since 2021 Maraš has worked as a Professor of Creative Music Technology and Co-head of Electronic Studio at Hochschule für Musik FHNW, Basel.
